Statesmen Storm Back to Defeat EMU JV

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference game with the JV squad. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 12-7 overall, 5-6 in conference play after picking up a 20-14 victory over the Lions.

 

In the game, Richard Bland rallied to defeated Eastern Mennonite JV 2014 Wednesday afternoon. The Statesmen trailed by as many as eight runs during the game. Macho Santiago collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Santiago doubled in the sixth, tripled in the third, and double in the eighth. The Lions jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after a home run scored two runs, and a double scored one run. EMU added two runs in the second, making the score 0-5. Richard Bland scored six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Carson Herod singled scoring two runs, Jordan Ramsey singled scoring one run, Arthur Garnett hit into a double play, but one run scored, and Carson Seely hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs. Richard Bland flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs on one hit to take the lead, 14-9. Charlie Hogan earned the win for Richard Bland. The pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking none. Connor Smith started the game for Richard Bland. The starter surrendered three hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none. David Smith, Will Holdren, Elijah Clarke, Michael Keyes, Michael Wingo, Everett Stevens, and Caleb O'Quinn each came on in relief for Richard Bland and shutdown the Lions.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next hosts the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College on Friday, March 14th at 4pm for game one of the series. Games two and three will take place on Saturday, March 15th in a 12pm doubleheader.
