Richard Bland Earns Split with Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Pitt Community College Sunday afternoon, for a conference doubleheader with the Bulldogs. Due to field conditions, the team could not play game three of the series, and that game will not be made up. After completion of the doubleheader, the Statesmen moved to 6-4 overall, 2-3 in conference play after dropping the opening game 4-6, and winning the nightcap 7-3.

 

In game 1, Pitt Community College got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jackson Hulcher induced a Bulldog to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and a double was hit, which scored two runs. A single in the bottom of the third extended the Bulldogs' lead to 2-4. Richard Bland scored two runs in the top of the ninth on a home run to right field by Connor Powell. Powell, the number seven hitter for the Statesmen, led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 at the plate. Jordan Ramsey led Richard Bland with two hits in four at bats. Hulcher took the loss for the Statesmen. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out three and walking three.

 

In game 2, Richard Bland bested Pitt CC on a powerful performance by Myles Holmes. Holmes hit two home runs and drove in two as the Statesmen defeated the Bulldogs 7-3 in the nightcap. Holmes homered in the second and sixth innings. Richard Bland got on the board in the top of the second inning after Holmes homered to left field, Sam Gupta grounded out, and Macho Santiago lined out, each scoring one run. Jack Rucker earned the win for Richard Bland. The southpaw surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking three. David Smith and Everett Stevens each appeared in relief for the Statesmen.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Hampden-Sydney College on Tuesday, February 25th for a 4pm, single game with the Tigers.
