Baseball Drops Series to Lancers

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 5-18 overall, 2-15 in conference play after traveling to Lenoir Community College on Saturday, and hosting the Lancers on Sunday for the three-game series.

 

In game one, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 3-10 loss to the Lancers. Lenoir took the lead on a stolen base in the first inning. Richard Bland tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Richard Bland lost despite out-hitting Lenoir nine to eight. Ashur Caraher and Dylan Bowen both contributed in the big inning with rbis, both with four baggers. Caraher went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Statesmen offense. Darren Osborne took the loss for the Statesmen. The ace lasted nine innings, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out six.

 

In game two, Richard Bland fell to Lenoir 5-6 on the final play of the game. Lenoir trailed 5-4 int eh bottom of the seventh inning when a Lancer single, scored two runs. Richard Bland tied things up and put up four runs in the fourth inning when Jamari Pooler homered, and scored all four runs. Richard Bland totaled 10 hits in the game. Landon Scott, Nick Guerra, and Pooler all had two hits to lead the offense. Gavin Riley took the loss for Richard Bland. The lefty allowed four hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.

 

In game three, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 0-8 loss to Lenoir on Sunday. The Statesmen struggled to contain the high-powered Lancer offense. A single by Carter Jones in the second inning was a positive for Richard Bland. Jones and Matt Stevenson each managed one hit to lead the Statesmen offense. Matthew Caldwell took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher surrendered four runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Lenoir Community College on Saturday, March 25th for game one and game two of the weekend series. The doubleheader will begin at 12pm. Game three of the series will be on Sunday, March 26th at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, VA. First pitch is set for 12pm.
