Baseball Drops Series to Dolphins

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 2-15 overall, 2-12 in conference play after hosting Brunswick Community College for the three-game weekend series Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Richard Bland fought back after falling down by six runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 8-9 defeat to the Brunswick Dolphins, Richard Bland scored eight runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Matt Stevenson in the fourth, a groundout by Carson Herod in the fourth, a single by Stevenson in the fifth, a single by Herod in the sixth, a single by Nick Guerra in the eighth, and a single by Carter Jones in the ninth. Richard Bland was right in it until the Dolphins homered in the ninth inning. Richard Bland totaled 14 hits on the day. Jones, Michael Caliz, Guerra, and Stevenson all had multiple hits for Richard Bland. Guerra, Caliz, and Jones all had three hits to lead the Statesmen. Reece Hamilton took the loss for Richard Bland. The righthander allowed one hit and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking zero. Darren Osborne started the game for Richard Bland. The righty lasted one and one-third innings, allowing one hit and five runs while striking out two.

In game two, Richard Bland stayed in it until the end, but Brunswick pulled away late in a 9-11 loss on Saturday. Richard Bland got things started in the first inning. Nick Guerra drove in two on a single. Richard Bland scored four runs in the second inning when Matt Stevenson had a rbi grand slam in the inning to lead the run scoring. Richard Bland collected 14 hits in the loss. Landon Scott, Guerra, Dylan Bowen, and Ryan Martin each collected multiple hits for the Statesmen. Guerra and Scott had three hits each to lead at the plate. Matthew Caldwell took the loss for Richard Bland. Caldwell surrendered five runs on five hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

In game three, watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 0-12 loss Sunday. Richard Bland struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Dolphins of Brunswick, giving up 12 runs. Jacob Roy single in the fourth inning to lead the Statesmen at the plate with one hit in one at bat. Ben Adams took the loss for Richard Bland. The righthander surrendered four runs on three hits over one inning, striking out one.

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Virginia Peninsula Community College (formerly known as Thomas Nelson CC) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 15^th beginning at 10am.
