Baseball Falls to Montgomery After Ninth Inning Score
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 1-3 overall, 1-1 in conference play after hosting the Raptors of Montgomery College (MD) at Shepherd Stadium this afternoon.
Montgomery College got things started in the first inning when a Raptor singled on the first pitch of the at bat, driving in a run. Richard Bland put up five runs in the third inning. The rally was led by home runs by Michael Caliz, Matt Stevenson, and Carter Jones. After Montgomery scored one run in the top of the sixth, Richard Bland answered with one of their own on a Nick Guerra single. Richard Bland stayed in it until the end, but the Raptors pulled away late in a 7-9 victory over the Statesmen. The game was tied at seven with Montgomery College (MD) batting in the top of the ninth when a Raptor was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Andrew Bottari started the game for Richard Bland. The righty last one inning, allowing three hits and three runs while walking zero. Matthew Caldwell took the loss for Richard Bland. The righthander went one and one-third innings, allowing two runs on zero hits and striking out three. Despite the loss, Richard Bland collected 17 hits in the high scoring affair. Landon Scott, Stevenson, Myles Frazier, Jones, Caliz, and Guerra each managed multiple hits for the Statesmen. Scott went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits.
The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Pitt Community College on Saturday, February 18th and 19th for the three game series with the Bulldogs. The doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1pm.
