SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team finishes the season 10-28 in conference, 12-30 overall after hosting Paul D. Camp Community College over the weekend, for the final series of the regular season.
In game 1, Dylan Barber drove in five on three hits, as Richard Bland defeated Camp 15-8. Barber drove in runs on a triple in the first, a double in the third, and a single in the seventh. Richard Bland got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run. Richard Bland pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Barber doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, Evan Hornsby doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, and Ben Shaffer singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland smacked two home runs on the day. Chris Polymeropoulos went yard in the eighth inning. William Bean had a four bagger in the sixth inning. Richard Bland collected 15 hits. Barber, Bean, Polymeropoulos, Rixon Webb, and Hornsby all managed multiple hits for the Statesmen. Barber got the start on the hill for Richard Bland. The fireballer surrendered six runs on nine hits over six and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.
In game 2, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 6-3 defeat to Camp Community College. The game was tied at three with the Hurricanes scoring two runs on a double in the top of the fifth. Richard Bland put up three runs in the third inning on an RBI home run by William Bean. Bean went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Statesmen. Davis Snyder toed the rubber. Snyder went four and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out one. Spencer Fillhart, Gavin Riley, and Landon Hoge each contributed in relief for Richard Bland.
In game 3, Richard Bland took the lead late in the game in an 8-4 victory. The game was tied at four with Richard Bland batting in the bottom of the seventh when Jayvon Brown was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Richard Bland earned the victory despite allowing the Hurricanes to score four runs in the fifth inning. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning when Nick Guerra hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. Richard Bland racked up 11 hits on the day. Nate Sherman and Rixon Webb each had multiple hits for Richard Bland. Sherman led with four hits in five at bats. Codie Maitland toed the rubber for the Statesmen. The bulldog lasted six innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out four and walking one.
Richard Bland baseball falls short of making playoffs in the inaugural season, but looks to build off of this season's successes, heading into year two.
