Steady Offensive Production Leads Baseball In Big Win Over Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 8-27 in conference, 10-29 overall after traveling to Fayetteville Technical Community College Wednesday afternoon.

 

In game 1, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 14-11 defeat. The game was tied at seven with Fayetteville batting in the bottom of the eighth when the Trojans singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland lost despite out-hitting their opponents 19 to 10. Richard Bland put up four runs in the ninth inning. The offense in the inning was led by Chris Polymeropoulos, William Bean, and Nick Guerra, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Polymeropoulos, Rixon Webb, Evan Hornsby, Guerra, Dylan Barber, Nate Sherman, and Bean all managed multiple hits for Richard Bland. Guerra, Hornsby, Webb, and Polymeropoulos had three hits each. Richard Bland launched one home run on the day. Rixon Webb went yard in the sixth inning. Gavin Riley was on the mound for the Statesmen. The pitcher went five and two-thirds inning, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out four. Codie Maitland, Landon Hoge, and Gavin Burton each contributed in relief.

 

In game 2, Richard Bland earned a resounding victory over Fayetteville Tech, 10-3, in the nightcap. Richard Bland took an early lead in the second inning when Chris Polymeropoulos drew a walk, scoring one run. Richard Bland took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third, Jayvon Brown singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Evan Hornsby's sac fly scored one run for Richard Bland. The Statesmen totaled 15 hits in the game. Rixon Webb, Dylan Barber, Brown, Polymeropoulos, Hornsby, and Nick Guerra each racked up multiple hits. Webb went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the offense. Brandon Arrowood got the win for Richard Bland. The pitcher surrendered three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking one.

 

Richard Bland baseball next hosts Paul D. Camp Community College on Saturday, April 30th. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1pm.
