SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 7-26 in conference, 9-28 overall after hosting Brunswick Community College over the weekend.
In game 1, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-0 loss to Brunswick Community College on Saturday. Brunswick started the scoring on a fielder's choice and a single in the second inning. Nick Guerra, Wade Clements, Evan Hornsby, Chris Polymeropoulos, Nate Sherman, and Dylan Barber each managed one hit to lead Richard Bland. Spencer Fillhart took the loss on the mound. Fillhart went four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out one.
In game 2, Richard Bland stayed in it until the end, but the Dolphins pulled away late in an 8-3 victory. The game was tied at three with Brunswick batting in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run for the Dolphins. Richard Bland got things moving in the first inning, when Nick Guerra grounded out scoring one run. Nate Sherman led with two hits in three at bats. Dylan Barber homered in the first inning to help the Statesmen offense. Gavin Burton took the loss for Richard Bland. Burton went two-thirds of an inning, allowing six runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Davis Snyder started the game for the Statesmen. The hurler lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five.
In game 3, Richard Bland got things moving in the first inning on a Chris Polymeropoulos solo homerun. Richard Bland evened things up at three in the bottom of the third inning. Evan Hornsby doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Nick Guerra, William Bean, Hornsby, Polymeropoulos, and Dylan Barber each managed one hit to lead Richard Bland. Codie Maitland took the loss for Richard Bland. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out two.
Richard Bland baseball next travels to Fayetteville Technical College on Wednesday, April 27th for a conference doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 3pm.
