SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 7-23 in conference, 9-25 overall after hosting Fayetteville Technical Community College in a doubleheader Wednesday evening.
In game 1, Richard Bland fought back after falling down by five runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 12-10 defeat to Fayetteville Tech. Richard Bland managed five runs in the failed comeback, but Fayetteville pushed two additional runs across to take the win. Wade Clements, Chris Polymeropoulos , William Bean, and Clements fueled the rally with RBIs. Richard Bland collected 12 hits in the loss. Jayvon Brown, Polymeropoulos, Evan Hornsby, and Clemetns each racked up multiple hits for the Statesmen. Brown led with three hits in four at bats. The Statesmen tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Brown led the way with three. Brandon Arrowood was on the mound for Richard Bland. Arrowood lasted five and a third innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out four. Landon Hoge, Connor Woodel, and Roman Borders each contributed in relief for Richard Bland.
In game 2, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 4-3 defeat. The game was tied at three with Fayetteville batting in the top of the sixth when the Trojans doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning, when Ben Shaffer singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. Richard Bland lost despite out hitting Fayetteville Tech, 7 to 4. Chris Polymeropoulos led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Gavin Riley was on the hill for Richard Bland. The bulldog lasted five innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out eight. Gavin Burton threw two innings in relief.
Richard Bland baseball next hosts Brunswick Community College in the weekend series, beginning Saturday, April 23rd at 1pm.
