SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 7-21 in conference, 9-23 overall after traveling to Virginia Beach for the weekend series with Bryant & Stratton (VA).
In game 1, the game was tied at one with Bryant & Stratton batting in the bottom of the sixth when the Bobcats doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered offense, giving up eight runs. Dylan Barber started the game for the Statesmen. The pitcher last five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two. Kalib Ruch and Gavin Burton entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively. Richard Bland tallied 11 hits in the game. Rixon Webb and Nick Guerra each collected three hits to lead the offense.
In game 2, the Statesmen watched the game slip away early and could not recover in the 11-1 loss. The Bobcats scored on a walk and two errors in the first inning to get on the board early. Wade Clements, Rixon Webb, Davis Snyder, Chris Polymeropoulos, and Dylan Barber each managed one hit to lead Richard Bland. Gavin Riley was on the mound for the Statesmen. Riley went four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one. Austin Dansey threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
In game 3, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 7-6 defeat. The game was tied at six with the Bobcats batting in the bottom of the eighth when Bryant & Stratton hit a solo homer. Richard Bland got things moving in the second inning on a Nick Guerra solo homer. Davis Snyder started the game for the Statesmen. The bulldog went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four. Spencer Fillhart took the loss for Richard Bland throwing one inning, allowing one run on three hits, striking out two and walking zero.
Richard Bland baseball next hosts Fayetteville Technical Community College in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 20th. First pitch is set for 3pm.
