Baseball Falls In Thriller
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 4-7 in conference, 6-9 overall after hosting a single game against St. Joseph's College of Patchogue, NY.
Richard Bland was the first to strike taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Nick Guerra drew a walk and would advance to second on a Ben Shaffer ground out. Owen Hopkins doubled on a line drive to center to score Guerra. In the bottom of the third, Wade Clements singled on a hard ground ball to left field, followed by a Jayvon Brown single. Rixon Webb tripled to score Brown to increase the lead, 2-0. William Bean doubled on a fly ball to right to score Webb, to lead by three. The Golden Eagles would add two runs in the top of the fourth, three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to pull past the Statesmen. Richard Bland would tab two additional runs, one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the ninth but would fall short, 6-5. Rixon Webb went 3-for-4 and walked once while earning one rbi to lead offensively. Nick Guerra went 2-for-4 with two rbi on the day.
Davis Snyder threw three innings allowing two hits, one walk, while striking out two. Five other Statesmen pitchers made an appearance; Dylan Barber, Cody Broch, Connor Woodel, Spencer Fillhart, and Codie Maitland. Woodel and Fillhart threw one inning each, both striking out two.
Richard Bland baseball next travels to Camp Community College Saturday, March 19th for a doubleheader to open the conference series. First pitch is at 1pm.
