Statesmen Struggle To Find Groove Against Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 3-6 in conference, 5-7 overall after the weekend conference series against Bryant and Stratton College (VA).

 

In game 1, Richard Bland fell behind early and could not come back in a 17-0 loss. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Bobcats. Bryant and Stratton took the lead on a single in the first inning. Rixon Webb had one hit in two at bats to lead the Statesmen. Codie Maitland was on the mound for Richard Bland. Maitland went four innings, allowing ten runs on 11 hits and striking out two. Connor Woodel threw one inning in relief.

 

In game 2, Bryant and Stratton took an early lead, and the Statesmen rebounded on top with Brown reaching on an error, a Bean walk, and a Nick Guerra four bagger. Bryant and Stratton knotted the game up at three in the top of the second inning. The Bobcats pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning and six runs in the fifth inning. Dylan Barber led the Statesmen with two hits in three at bats. Gavin Riley last three and a third innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out four. Spencer Fillhart and Carson Pardue entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and two thirds innings and one inning respectively.

 

In game 3, the Bobcats took an early lead in the first inning and never looked back. Brandon Arrowood was on the hill fpr the Statesmen. He surrendered five runs on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out two. Davis Snyder, Gavin Burton, and Cody Broch each contributed in relief for Richard Bland. Dylan Barber went 2-for—3 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits.

 

Richard Bland baseball next travels to Brunswick Community College on Saturday, March 12th for the series opener at 12pm.
