Statesmen Drop Series To Lenoir, 1-2

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 3-3 in conference, 5-3 overall after their conference series with Lenoir Community College. Richard Bland traveled to Kinston, NC Saturday afternoon for two games, and hosted the third contest Sunday afternoon.

In game 1, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat Saturday afternoon. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning when William Bean singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. After the Statesmen scored one run in the top of the seventh, Lenoir answered with one of their own. The Statesmen scored when Nate Sherman singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Lenoir then answered with one run of their own. Davis Snyder took the loss for Richard Bland. Snyder surrendered two runs on four hits over one inning, walking zero. Brandon Arrowood started the game for Richard Bland and surrendered three runs on three hits over five and a third innings, while striking out two. Bean led the Statesmen with two hits in three at bats.

In game 2, Richard Bland stole the lead late and defeated Lenoir CC 5-2 on Saturday evening. The game was tied at two with Richard Bland batting in the top of the fifth when Dylan Barber homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. Gavin Riley pitched the Statesmen to victory. Riley went four innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out seven. Gavin Burton threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Burton recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Richard Bland. The Statesmen collected nine hits in the contest. Barber and Nick Guerra had multiple hits for Richard Bland. The Statesmen did not commit a single error in the contest. Zachary Streib had the most chances in the field with 11.

In game 3, Richard Bland fell to Lenoir CC after a late score that the Statesmen couldn't answer. Richard Bland collected nine hits and Lenoir had 13 in the high scoring affair. Richard Bland opened up scoring in the third inning with William Bean hitting into a fielder's choice, scoring two runs. Codie Maitland toed the rubber for Richard Bland. Maitland lasted four innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one. Kalib Ruch, Spencer Fillhart, and Dylan Barber each contributed in relief for Richard Bland. Rixon Webb and Nate Sherman each collected two hits to lead the Statesmen.

Richard Bland baseball next hosts Bryant and Stratton College (VA) on Saturday, March 5^th for the first two games of the series. The Statesmen will travel to Bryant and Stratton on Sunday March 6^th for the final game of the series.
