Beach Volleyball Three-Peats as Region 10 Champs, Punches Ticket to Nationals for Third Consecutive Year
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Beach Volleyball team traveled to Sandhills Community College for the Region 10 Championship on Friday, April 18th. The Statesmen clinched their spot in the Region Championship as they completed the conference season 4-0. After conclusion of the day, Richard Bland has moved to 12-9 overall, and officially punched their ticket to the NJCAA National Championship in Huntsville, Alabama for the third consecutive year. Sophomore, Phoebe Heath was also named Region 10 Player of the Year.
The Statesmen awaited their opponent, as Wake Technical Community College and Sandhills Community College battled it out in the semifinal round of the tournament. Sandhills Community College came out victorious, and met the Statesmen in the Championship match.
In the duals, the Statesmen defeated the Flyers 3-0.
Pair 1: Phoebe Heath & Lovina Teal did not finish, as the match was decided after three wins.
Pair 2: Alexis Scipione & Gabrielle Meador defeated the Flyers 21-17 and 21-19.
Pair 3: Peyton Ostenson & Taelin Connolley defeated the Flyers 21-10 and 21-16.
Pair 4: Braelyn Boyd & Rachelle Martin defeated the Flyers 21-10 and 21-16.
Pair 5: Rachel Pickens & Aliyah Millner did not finish, as the match was decided after three wins.
The Richard Bland College beach volleyball team next travels to the NJCAA National Championship in Huntsville, Alabama May 1st-3rd. The National Tournament will consist of nine teams. The first day will be three pools of three, followed by challenge rounds to reseed day two. Day two will be another round of pool play that will separate the top six teams into a bracket on day three. The bottom three teams will play in a pool on day three. Championship pools will be as follows:
Pool 1: Teams 1, 6, 7
Pool 2: Teams 2, 5, 8
Pool 3: Teams 3, 4, 9
The National Tournament seedings will be announced on Wednesday, April 23rd at 3pm Eastern Time on the NJCAA Network.
