The Statesmen Highlight Reel : Martin Kawa
Richard Bland College Men’s Basketball is in the back half of week six after coming off two big conference wins at home to open conference play over the weekend. The Statesmen defeated USC Salkehatchie, 67-59, Saturday afternoon, and followed up with a 79-74 overtime win against the Panthers of Denmark Technical College Sunday afternoon. Prior to last weekend, the Statesmen have accumulated wins over nonconference opponents Virginia State University JV, CCBC Catonsville, and Chesapeake College. A strong driving force behind this team is sophomore guard, Martin Kawa from Stafford, Virginia.
Kawa has started all 11 games for the Statesmen. He currently leads the team in points with 207, averaging 18.8 per game. Kawa has grabbed 61 total rebounds, garnered 32 assists, 20 steals, and has earned six blocks.
Kawa has gone 66-173 from the field averaging 38.2%, 59-78 at the charity stripe averaging 75.6%, and 16-50 from the perimeter averaging 32.0%.
Kawa’s impact can be felt in every aspect of the game. He will be looked at to continue leading and producing for the well-known men’s basketball program.
