SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College freshman men's soccer standout midfielder Davi Girardi/São Paulo, Brazil has been named the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period September 4-10. He led the unbeaten and No. 19 Statesmen (6-0, 5-0 Region X) to a pair of home victories last week with four goals and two assists totaling 10 points. Girardi scored the game-winning goal in both matches, tallying two goals and one assist in each contest, including a 6-0 win past USC Sumter on Sept. 7 and a 5-0 win past Region X opponent Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) on Sept. 9.
"Davi has the passion and the drive to win that every player must have," explained fourth-year head coach Eduardo de Souza. "Every game he plays, he is determined to compete at the highest level possible. When you add this with his creativity and talent, it shows with his statistics. We are very happy for him, but we know that without all our group discipline and hard work, it would be impossible to accomplish."
Through six matches, Girardi leads Richard Bland in scoring with a team-best eight goals, including four game-winning goals, adding two assists for 18 points. He has started all six contests for the Statesmen and posted 18 shots (.444), including 11 shots on goal (.611).
Richard Bland will play on the road at in-state rival and Region X opponent Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. in Martinsville.
